We want you to see Bryan as he is: a wonderful kid with the same needs than any other 10 years old. The difference is there are no washrooms for him.
Age: 12 years old
Citizenship: Canadian
His favorite things: He loves his sister, Bryan also loves to go shopping and play videogames on his iPad.
Condition: Bryan has cerebral palsy and is also deaf, blind.
Questions/Answers
Q: Are the bathrooms that currently exist, that do not have an adult changing table or Lift, good for Bryan?
A: Unfortunately wherever we go there is no place to change him. Bryan wears diapers and is growing. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get out of the house.
Q: Is there any activity or place where you would have wanted to take him or stay longer and you could not because of the lack of toilets?
A: Bryan lives on Vancouver Island, therefore he is a regular user of BC Ferries, to attend medical appointments at BCCH. No ferry has a suitable place to change him. Summer is coming and options for Bryan to participate in activities in the community are very limited. The community centers where they offer activities do not have a suitable place to change him. School field trips usually to museums and parks are challenging too.
Q: Would it make any difference in your life if all the places: cinemas, parks, museums had an adult changing table and a lift?
I wish there were at least the most common places to change Bryan!
He has the same right as everyone else to enjoy an outing with his friends or family without worrying about being wet or uncomfortable holding on.
